Mastering Single Line and Multi-Line Text in AutoCAD: A Comprehensive Guide

Welcome to our AutoCAD learning series! Today we're going to learn how to create single line and multi-line text in AutoCAD. These tools are accessible via the text dropdown in the annotation panel of the Home tab, or the Annotate tab in the River. Let's start with theSingle Line Text.

How to Create a Single Line Text

  1. Click on the Single Line Text tool in the text dropdown.
  2. Specify the start point of your text by clicking where you want it to begin.
  3. Enter the desired height using the cursor or manually type the value.
  4. Choose whether to rotate the text (0 degrees by default).
  5. Write your text in the text window that appears.
  6. Click outside the window when done and press Escape to exit.
  7. Change the properties of your single line text using the Properties menu.

Properties of Single Line Text

  1. Change the text height, rotation angle, oblique angle, and more by selecting the text, right-clicking, and going to Properties > Text.
  2. Use the Properties window to adjust the text size, rotation angle, oblique angle, and other settings as desired.

Moving on to Multi-Line Text

  1. Select the Multi-Line Text tool in the text dropdown.
  2. Specify the first column where you want your text window by clicking and dragging.
  3. Define the window size by specifying the opposite corner.
  4. Write your text, with multiple lines if needed.
  5. Change properties like text height, annotative status, font style, color, justification, and more as desired.
  6. Click outside the text window when done to close it.
  7. Edit the multi-line text by double-clicking on it to reopen the text editor contextual tab.

Advantages of Multi-Line Text

  1. More flexibility: Add multiple lines, bullets, numbering, symbols, and more.
  2. Useful for creating complex annotations in your drawings.
