Sliced typography is a unique and eye-catching design technique that adds depth and texture to your projects. It can be used for logos, branding, websites, social media graphics, and more.

Essential Tools for Creating Sliced Typography πŸ› οΈπŸŽ¨πŸ’»οΈβœ¨

Before we begin, make sure you have the following tools:
- Adobe Illustrator
- Smart Guides (View > Smart Guides > Show Smart Guides)
- Snap to Pixel (View > Snap to Grid > Snap to Pixels)

Step 1: Write Your Text πŸ“πŸ’»οΈβœ¨

  1. Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document.
  2. Go to the Type tool and click on your canvas.
  3. Write your text, making sure to use a heavy, bold font such as Moncer Art.
  4. Increase the font size to at least 200 points.

Step 2: Create an Outline πŸ“πŸ’»οΈβœ¨

  1. Right-click on your text and choose Create Outlines.
  2. Decrease the opacity of the outline to 50%.
  3. Select the outline and rotate it slightly counterclockwise.

Step 3: Create a Rectangle πŸ“πŸ’»οΈβœ¨

  1. Go to the Rectangle tool and create a rectangle that covers half of your text.
  2. Decrease the opacity of the rectangle to 50%.

Step 4: Combine the Shapes πŸ“πŸ’»οΈβœ¨

  1. Select both the outline and the rectangle using the Shape Builder tool.
  2. Click and drag to remove the inner portion of the D letter and the rectangle, leaving only the upper and lower portions of your text.
  3. Combine the upper and lower portions by selecting them and using the Pathfinder > Unite option.

Step 5: Move the Lower Portion πŸ“πŸ’»οΈβœ¨

  1. Select the lower portion of your text and move it slightly to the left using the Left Arrow key.
  2. You should now see a sliced typography effect!

Step 6: Add a Background πŸ“πŸ’»οΈβœ¨

  1. Create a rectangle that covers the entire canvas using the Rectangle tool.
  2. Fill the background with your desired color or pattern.
  3. Send the background to the back by going to Object > Arrange > Send to Back.

Step 7: Group and Style Your Typography πŸ“πŸ’»οΈβœ¨

  1. Select all of your typography elements and group them together (Object > Group > Group).
  2. Change the color of the group to white, if necessary.
  3. Use the Direct Selection tool to select the upper portion of the text and add a gradient effect using the Gradient tool.
  4. Adjust the gradient sliders as needed to create your desired effect.

  1. Go to File > Save As and choose Illustrator format (.ai).
